"eyewitness news". well this weekend we're enjoying a winter warmup and here's something we haven't felt in while. we could be breaking the 50-degree mark come tomorrow. good evening everyone i'm natasha brown. thank you so much for joining us. enjoy this warmup while you can. because wintry weather it will be making a return very very soon. meteorologist justin drabick is tracking how warm it will get and then the storm that will follow right justin. >> that's right, natasha. nice little break from the cold temperatures today. we actually saw highs in the mid 40s a few degrees above average. 42 is our average high for this time of year but here's where we are right now. currently at freezing in mount pocono and allentown and reading. mid 30s for philadelphia and wilmington. so we have clouds over our region right now. that will help keep our temperatures milder to tonight. holds in some of that warmth near the surface. we can't lose to heat quickly because of the clouds in place. think of it like a blanket. 38 in philadelphia. 32 in pottstown.

there's clouds on storm scan3 storm scan3 streaming from the west arctic cold front to our north where we see the snow breaking out across upstate new york. that front will move southward over the neck 24 hours. that's going to be our next weather maker and eventually colder air returns. we can be dealing with a wintry mix coming in for the start of the work week especially north of the city but the rest of the weekend dry with clouds. because of those cold temperatures arriving into monday, we're talking about a winter storm watch for sunday evening through monday night. this is for carbon and monroe counties the poconos best shot to see a wintry mix. a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain. tomorrow morning's temperatures really not that bad. at or slightly below freezing. yes, it's chilly start to the day but afternoon it's not bad. who are we go upper 40s for the high temperature and if we see enough sunshine, some areas could reach 50 degrees at the shore mid 40s partly sunny skies. watch out for some rain showers coming in later during the day in the poconos. highs there in the upper 30s and see a change over to some wintry precipitation from the poconos

later sunday night. talk about these middle temperatures how long they last and monday's storm. we'll break down in some rain and ice chances for the delaware valley coming up in a few minutes. natasha. >> justin thanks so much you can step one step -- stay one step ahead of wheat weekend forecast track live radar and a lot more. it's free and available now on google play andism tunes. we're following breaking news in western pennsylvania tonight. three people were shot at a mall just outside of pittsburgh. and police say they are still searching for a suspect or suspects at this point. the shooting happened at about 8:30 tonight empty monroeville mall. a police source tells our sister station kdka in pittsburgh the gunfire was the result of a gang fight and that there were multiple shooters involved. now the victims were rush to the hospital. two are said to be in critical condition. the third is in serious condition at this hour. and new tonight, it is a serious crime. police are working to track down

prankster calling 911 and filing false reports in montgomery county. police were called to the 100 block of school street in bala cynwyd for a report of a shooting about 7:00 o'clock this evening. officers arrived but determined that the shooting was just a hoax. it was the second hoax in bala cynwyd today. similar pranks have occurred across the nation straining police row sources. under pennsylvania law false reporting carries a penalty of up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine. the fate of american humanitarian worker kayla mueller is still unknown at this point. isis claims that mueller was killed in a jordanian air strike in syria. the us says there's no evidence to support that claim. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has more. >> reporter: friends and family of 26-year-old kayla mueller still don know if she's alive. isis claims jordanian air strike his this building and that the aid worker from prescott,

arizona is buried be 19. jordan has launched a number of air strikes against isis and its strong hold after the group released a video that showed militants burning to death a captured jordanian pilot. but isis offered no further proof that mueller is dead. also said no militants were killed in the bombing. jordan says the claim is prof began today. the us defense depth says saturday the target was a known weapons storage compound and that there's no indication hostages were held there. mueller is the only known american hostage still being held by isis. >> i am in solidarity with the syrian people. >> reporter: she came to syria to help in the humanitarian crisis. was taken hostage in 2013. >> one of those folks that looks for the good in everything. >> reporter: her parents say they're hopeful she's still alive. meanwhile the attacks against isis continued. coalition aircraft conducted 11 air strikes in syria and 15 in iraq friday and saturday.

wendy gillette for cbs3 "eyewitness news". the investigation continues into the cause of a fast-moving fire in philadelphia's frankford neighborhood. chopper three was overhead as flames ripped through a one-story building on the 1600 block of folk rod last night. the fire was still smoldering this morning. investigators say the building was not occupied and there were no injuries reported. authorities charge a driver with dui in connect with a crash on roosevelt boulevard. at least throw cars collided near fox street in nicetown just before 3:00 o'clock this morning morning. philadelphia police tell "eyewitness news" the driver who was charged with dui also suffered a broken leg in this crash. another candidate joins the democratic race for mayor of philadelphia. doug oliver announced his candidacy in germantown today. >> another set fresh set of eyes can make all the differ in the world. when i look at the city of philadelphia i think it's time for fresh set of eyes.

okay. let's do that again. 34 58, 05, 21, 10 and the powerball is 33. good luck everyone if you played. certainly a well deserved surprise for one local high school basketball player. today becca brown a junior at king way regional highway got the chance to start for her varsity team in its annual coaches versus cancer game. becca was diagnosed with hodgkin's lymphoma a year ago but with hard work an lot of support from her family and friends she's won her battle to get back on the court. >> they taught me to not take any for granted and be thankful for those that you have with you. it feels great just to know that i -- they were the ones that helped me and now we're playing for the people who can't. that's what this game is for much that's what this day is for for. >> last november doctors told becca the news that she had been hoping for. after months of radiation treatments, she was officially cancer free. well, it is a big

celebration in east falls tonight. philadelphia's university legendary basketball coach herb magee reaches a huge milestone. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers has all the exciting details. >> reporter: a countdown 48 years in the making. >> four, three two one! >> reporter: with that buzzer herb magee got his 1,000th victory as the head basketball coach at the philadelphia university. >> i never really thought about it until just now. 1,000 wins much that's a lot. >> reporter: the 74-year-old was mobbed by friends family and fans the pate tree arc of a revered program adding just the latest accomplishment a remarkable career. >> when the season is over it will mean something. i'll be honest with you. the way i feel i told you all you folk it's a relief. report roar during the game the coach paced the side lines as always the electricity building as the clock ran down. they might play in a small gym over at philadelphia u but it

graduated from the 38th fire academy in wilmington. after completing a grueling 14 week training program. now some of the department's top brass were also there to say a few words and also to thank them for their service. special recognition for hundreds of local scouts. the archdiocese of philadelphia held its annual scout mass this morning for those who have earned their religious emblem over the past year. bishop michael fitzgerald was the principal sell will he brant and homilist for the mass. afterwards a ceremony was held presenting each with their new medal. and stay with us, everyone. still ahead tonight on "eyewitness news", we head out to the west coast final preparations for the grammys are currently underway and plus, bruce jenn are in is involved in a terrible crash that left one person dead. we've got the details on this on-going investigation. and got milk? more families are saying no to that question. why milk sales have dropped to a

rocket propelled grenade while in iraq in 2003. in a message sent to staff he says it has quote become painfully apparent to him that his actions have made him too much a part of the news. new details in the bobbi kristina brown case. celebrity news website tmz is now reporting police in atlanta have launched a criminal investigation. the only child of the late whitney houston remains in a comb m the target of this investigation is said to be brown's boyfriend nick gordon. last saturday, brown was found unresponsive in a tub in her georgia home. and former olympian bruce jenner was in one of four cars involved in a crash in malibu that left one woman dead. jenner wasn't hurt but seven other people did suffer injuries. the los angeles county sheriff's office says jenner rear ended the woman's white lexus pushing it on to oncoming traffic on the pacific coast highway. authorities say jenner cooperated with investigators past a field sobriety test and

cleve reports on how the industry is scrambling now to turn things around. >> reporter: snack time never includes cow's milk. >> it's not everybody's first choice any more. >> rosemary believes plant based milks like soy and all mon and and rice are healthier option much she's not a lone. the consumption of dairy milk dropped. a 33% decline. >> it doesn't turn milk will get to the point that it really is irrelevant as a product. >> reporter: tom good lager of ce. o of dairy management incorporated. he says it's time for change. >> the old cardboard container and you i used at school is still used in most schools and you know the problem with that. not only is it served warm but kids open the containers. >> new blended milk products and round resealable containers. dietician says however it's

keeping that heat kind of right down the surface. sorry we're having a hard time dropping more than freezing mark right now. barbara in willow grove checks in with 33 degrees this hour. jim royersford he's at freezing. greg in marshaltown, delaware, checks in at cooler 31 degrees much that's one of the cold spots root now. steven in robbinsville, new jersey at 33 degrees. here we go. philadelphia phil has 34. at 30 eileen murray checks in gilbertsville and tony in townsend delaware, coming in 29 degrees. newark, delaware, 27 checked in by delores lee. there could be some thin spots in the clouds allowing those temperatures to drop but overall really not bad night. take you outside right now here in center city philadelphia. we're looking at the ben franklin bridge. just partly to mostly cloudy skies. tonight we'll keep it dry. that will be the trend into your sunday and really the story right now is those temperatures. compared to this time yesterday we're five to 17 degrees warmer. so that's that warmer air mass that is moving in. it sticks around for one more

day. 35 at the airport. 30 in millville. 36 at the shore in wildwood but there is some colder air across new england. 26 in albany that's an arctic air mass that will eventually move southward in time. and it's arctic front that comes through our region later tomorrow into monday. that's will be our next weather maker just some clouds streaming into the area right in you all the snow still across upstate new york. we'll keep things dry through much of the day on sunday. here comes the front moves southward through the day sunday sunday. sunday night. mostly cloudy skies. temperatures at or above average tomorrow in the mid to upper 40s. the front moves through our he john on monday. so mainly rain for philadelphia but areas to the north there could be enough cold air in place to see mixture of some snow sleet and freezing rain. it's going to be light but still enough to cause some problems out there on the roadways. and then on tuesday we're back to just dry conditions with clearing skies. let's sometime time the out for you. late sunday night those rain showers should arrive. and then during the day monday, off and on showers at times

around the city but to the north watch out for pocks of freeing rain and sleet. north and west and then later monday afternoon monday evening we could see a complete change over to light snow. not expecting any a come laying for the city but again lehigh valley and poconos could see a couple of inches especially up into the mountains. all right. during the day sunday just dry with some clouds. who are we go sunday night some of moisture moves in from the north could be cold enough to support freezing rain up into the lehigh valley and poconos. during the day monday showers around the time from the city on southward watch out for freezing rain potential to the north and west through the mountains and then later on monday evening we start to see the change over to some light snow before the storm system moves offshore. how much snow we talking about? not a whole lot. maybe a coating to an inch up into the lehigh valley. one to three for the poconos. not much of anything for philadelphia. ice that could be an issue. a few hundredths of an inch is possible north of the city. bucks, montgomery county, lehigh valley 500ths of an inch is

possibly tenth of an inch. could be slick spots on ununtreated surfaces on monday. not as cold overnight. partly cloudy low of 32. enjoy sunday. mostly cloudy mild at 48 degrees for the high temperature. we bring rain in here for monday the it will be light watch out for that wintery mick to the north. tuesday drying out 38 degrees. for wednesday 40 for the high temperature. thursday there could be a few flurries temperatures in the upper 30s but look at next friday and saturday very cold with highs in the 20s much that's a check of your forecast. more news when we return. ♪

as we told you earlier philadelphia university's herb magee making history today joining the 1,000 win club. the game convincing win for the rams. they defeated post 80-60. hall of famer went to what is now philadelphia university and he never left becoming head coach in 1967. he spoke after the game about finally reaching the milestone. >> it's been a tough situation because the hype is there and everybody is pulling for us as a team but they're really pulling for me to get a thousand wins because they know how important it is. so it means a lot. >> villanova getting another
